Salem — Richard E. Marchi, age 81, of Salem, died on Monday, December 10, 2012, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House. He was the husband of Carol (Lawson) Marchi, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage.
Born in Kingston and raised in Somerville, he was the son of the late Nello and Natalie (Bertocchi) Marchi. He had lived in Salem since 1977.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army's 69th Infantry Division during the Korean War.
Richard had worked as a driver for the Salem Council on Aging. He has also previously worked from 1966-1976 as an insurance agent for Prudential Life, and had formerly served as the manager of Loring Towers.
He loved to build model airplanes, fish, watch sports, especially football, and tinker with anything. An intelligent, well rounded man, he was a wonderful, loving, and caring, husband, father and friend who was always willing to help. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Diane Blackwell and her husband, Kevin, of Chester, N.H., Daniel Marchi and his wife, Patricia, of Pelham, N.H., Sheryl Schneider and her husband, Jeff, of Claremont, N.H., and Eileen Marcelonis, of Salem, and six grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late William Marchi.
ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 67 Ocean Street (Rte. 1A). Memorial visitation will be prior to the service from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
