Hamilton, MA — Edward F. Andrews, 90, of Hamilton, beloved husband of Dolores F. (Fortin) Andrews, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Radius Healthcare Center in Danvers following a lengthy illness.
He was the son of the late Henry P. and Catherine L. (Wipfler) Andrews. As a child, he lived in Ipswich, MA. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army, 306th Fighter Wing, and served his country during World War II. He rose to the rank of Sergeant and was stationed in Italy.
Mr. Andrews was a member of the American Legion Post #193 in Hamilton for 50 years. After the war, Ed was hired to work for the United Fruit Company where he worked in the Dominican Republic for many years. Upon his return to the United States, he married Dolores, his wife of 65 years and they lived in Hamilton. He worked at the United Shoe Machinery Corporation as a Master Mechanical Technician until the time of his retirement. After retiring, he was often seen driving around Hamilton in his much-loved red Ford truck.
Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who cherished time spent with his family. The pool in Ed and Dolores’ yard was always filled with happy grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, hiking, canoeing and mountain climbing with his grandchildren. He was an accomplished vegetable gardener who reaped many plentiful harvests. Throughout his life, he had a love for animals and was an avid birdwatcher. Ed will be remembered as a quiet, gentle man who was always there to help others.
In addition to his wife Dolores, he is survived by a daughter, Nancy K. Politis of Hamilton; a son, Dana P. Andrews and his wife, Kathleen Andrews of Ipswich; five grandchildren: Mia J. (Politis) Bain; Edward J. Politis; Steven D. Andrews; Lisa M. Andrews; and John J. Politis. He has three great-grandchildren: Natalie N. Bain; James J. Politis; and Michael J. Politis, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Ruth Blais, and the father-in-law of the late James J. Politis of Hamilton.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be held at the Church of St. Paul, 50 Union St., Hamilton, MA Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly (North Beverly location), Tuesday, December 18, 2012 from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial in Hamilton Cemetery.
