Adolph (Al) S. Dorosz, 93, husband of Wanda (Strojny) Dorosz, died Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at Beverly Hospital. Born in Bridgewater, son of the late Alexander and Margaret (Adamczyk) Dorosz.
After graduating from Northeastern University, he received a pilot’s license and flew Waco biplanes while in primary flight training for the Army Air Corps, During WWII Adolph was employed at Chance Vought Aircraft as a design engineer for the F4U Corsair Fighter. After the war he joined the United Shoe Machinery Corp. as a mechanical engineer/inventor where he was awarded 75 patents during his 36 years of employment. He was the lead mechanical designer for several computer-controlled sewing machines including one with two needles for stitching cowboy boots. He also designed machines to assemble printed circuit boards, make blister packs, orange juice cans, and POP rivets. He operated an engineering consulting practice after his retirement from USM. Al founded Bass River Associates in 1946 to develop land on which he designed and hand built his family’s home in Beverly where he lived for 67 years. He was a founding member of St John Evangelist Catholic Church. He was a registered professional engineer and machinist, and enjoyed gardening, financial management and travel to Poland. Al also played 3 musical instruments and had a avid interest in current events, history and science.
In addition to his wife, to whom he was married for 69 years, he is survived by two sons: Edward and wife, Suzanne, and David; one sister, Helen Dorosz; three grandchildren: Dr. Jennifer Dorosz, Lauren Dorosz, Kathryn Shroff and two great grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Alfred and sister Jenny Tolivaisa.
