Marilyn R. Mackey, 80


Ipswich — Marilyn R. (McGrath) Mackey, 80, wife of the late Anthony J. “Tony” Mackey, died on Monday night, September 23, 2013, at her home in Ipswich after a brief illness. Born in Salem on December 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late William E. and Julia M. (Jodoin) McGrath.

Raised and educated in Salem, she met her future husband in Ipswich. Mrs. Mackey and her husband, Tony, were married in St. James Catholic Church in Salem on May 22, 1955, and were married for 56 years. Mrs. Mackey was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Polish Catholic Church in Ipswich. She was formerly employed as a worker in the Ipswich School System for many years. She loved playing golf and bowling. Mrs. Mackey enjoyed being with her family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Tony, who died on January 2, 2012.

Mrs. Mackey is survived by her two sons, Wayne Mackey and Robert Mackey, both of Ipswich; and by several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her two brothers, William McGrath, formerly of Beverly, and Richard McGrath, formerly of Salem.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, September 27, at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 52 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, September 26, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mrs. Mackey’s name to the Ipswich Council-on-Aging, 25 Green Street, Ipswich, MA 01938.
