James E. Greenough, 74

Ipswich — James E. Greenough, 74, husband of Marcia E. (Carey) Greenough, died Thursday afternoon, October 3, 2013, in the Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell after a long illness. Born in Beverly on July 16, 1939, he was the son of the late George and Mary (Perkins) Greenough.

“The love of my life is gone. We began our journey together with laughter. Now it has ended in tears.”

Mr. Greenough was raised and educated in Ipswich, he was a graduate of Ipswich High School, Class of 1957. He entered the Navy and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He served for over 12 years. He was a Navy medic attached to the Marines in Vietnam. He received the Purple Heart. Mr. Greenough and his wife, Marcia, were married for 45 years. They were married on February 24, 1968, in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Ipswich.

Mr. Greenough was a member of the VFW Post #1093 and the Amvets Post #201, both of Ipswich, and of the American Legion A.P. Gardner Post #194 of Hamilton.

Mr. Greenough is survived by, in addition to his wife, Marcia, of Ipswich, his 2 sons and their wives, Brian and Michele Greenough of Charlton, James and Priscilla Greenough of Peabody, and his 2 grandsons, Jacob and Connor. He is also survived by his 3 sisters, Sally Paquin of Amesbury, Joyce Dolliver of Hamilton, Judy and her husband, John Kopecky, of SC and by several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, October 7th, at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 54 Linebrook Road, Ipswich. Burial will follow with military honors in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Visiting hours will be Sunday, October 6th, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. in the Morris Funeral Home, 45 North Main Street, Ipswich, relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
