Peabody — Elizabeth “Liz” Murphy, age 72, of Peabody, a lifelong learner and longtime educator, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 23, 2013, at North Shore Medical Center, Lynn.
Born in Salem, the daughter of the Late Edward and Kaliope “Kay” (Geronimos) Murphy, she attended Salem Public Schools. Her love of teaching called her back to the classroom first at Salem State University and then later at Marian Court College where she established the Travel & Tourism/Hospitality degree program.
More recently she had found a new outlet in education as a Docent for the Stone Zoo where she could combine her love of travel, animals and education with coworkers and guest of the zoo alike.
When time allowed she would volunteer at the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem. One of her favorite pastimes was organizing and guiding international tours for a variety of different groups.
