Shirley A. Burns, 79


Byfield — Shirley A. (Guptill) Burns of Byfield died on Sunday, November 10, 2013, after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Thomas M. Burns. They would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on November 16.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her son, Tom and wife, Marlene, and son, Scott and wife, Annemarie; daughter, Kristin, and son, Craig and his wife, Jill. She was so proud of her six grandchildren, Brian, Alison, Matthew, Tommy, James, and Jacob. She enjoyed spending time with them and attending their sporting events.

She was the sister of the late Walter Guptill, his wife, Mary; brothers Bill Guptill and wife, Nancy, and brother, George Guptill; sister Ellen Brazell; and the late Steve Guptill. She also leaves several nieces and nephews.

Shirley grew up in Lynn, and graduated from Lynn English High School, Class of 1952. She recently attended her 50th high school reunion. She lived in Lynn until moving to Peabody, where she and Tom raised their children. She had resided in Byfield for the last 18 years.

ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be held on Thursday, November 14, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Conte Funeral Home, 14 Pleasant Street, Georgetown, Mass. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend her funeral Mass on Friday, November 15, at 10 a.m., at St. Mary's Church, 94 Andover Street, Route 133, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society or the Hospice of the North Shore.
