Salem — Mr. Mark Edward George, 62, of Salem, beloved longtime companion of Joan (McGuiggan) Gillis of Salem, died December 25, 2013, at Beverly Hospital with his loved ones by his side.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Richard H. and Catherine (Foley) George of Lynn. He was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School, Class of 1969. He continued his education at Salem State University earning his degree in Psychology in 1974.
Mr. George began his professional career as a clinical psychologist and Director of Project Cope of Lynn. Currently Mark was the founder and proprietor of Marigot Associates of Salem, specializing in residential real estate appraisals.
Mark was a well-known mixologist at the former V Bar (1 Barton Square Lounge) in Salem.
A lifelong resident of the City of Salem, Mark was currently a member of the City of Salem Planning Board. He was a member of the Massachusetts Realtors Association, the Association for Valuation Professionals; he was the former Chairman of the City of Salem Conservation Commission.
Mark will always be remembered for his outgoing and kind nature. He was an avid cook who loved preparing gourmet meals for his family and friends. He fostered many herbal plants that he used in his cooking. Yet above all else in his life, his family and friends were paramount. His dedication and devotion to his boys was unmatched. Whenever he was able to spend time or talk with his kids his whole aura would light up. His love for his family was true and will be his hallmark.
In addition to his parents, Mark is survived by his loving companion, Joan (McGuiggan) Gillis of Salem; his sons, Kevin George of Miami, Fla., and Christopher George of Brookline; his grandson, Kaleb George of Miami; his brothers, Marty George and his wife, Susan of Wakefield and Peter George and his wife, Julie of Lynn; and several nieces and nephews.
