James M. Strong, Jr., 86


Wakefield — Mr. James M. Strong Jr., of Wakefield and formerly of Topsfield, passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, December 23. He was 86. Born in Hartford, Conn., he was the son of the late James M. and Helen Sylvia (Bolles) Strong. Mr. Strong attended the Kingswood Oxford School and Westminster, prior to enrolling at Nichols College. An honorably discharged veteran, he served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. A retired insurance executive, he began his career in Conneticut and advanced to the American Policy Holders Insurance Company where he retired. Mr. Strong enjoyed summers at his home in Madison, Conn., and the warmer winters in Florida; but mostly enjoyed time spent with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by two daughters, Jane (Strong) May and her husband, Geoffrey, and Ann (Strong) O’Connor and her husband, William, all of Topsfield; his seven grandchildren, Charles May, William O’Connor, George May, Katherine O’Connor, Caroline May, Margaret O’Connor and Sarah Jane O’Connor. He was the brother of Susan Strong Wayne of Madison, Conn. He was predeceased by his former wife, Janet (Kress) Strong and his sister, Jane Strong Harter.

ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be celebrated at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 124 River Road, Topsfield, on Monday, Dec. 30, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell-Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Sunday from 2 to 5 p.m. Burial will be at the Cedar Hill Cemetery, Hartford, CT.
