Salem, MA — William P. “Bill” Smith, 66, of Salem, husband of Donna (Lariviere) Smith of Salem, died on Friday, May 9, 2014, at Radius of Quincy, following a long illness, with his family by his side.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late William P. and Eileen (Ryan) Smith. He attended Salem schools and graduated from the Salem Vocational School, Class of 1966. He then began what would become a 43-year career at EG&G in Salem, until he retired due to illness. When he had a day off from work, he was glad to be with his wife, Donna, and sons, William and Matthew.
He loved music, going to the movies and reading Stephen King novels. He looked forward to his trips to Florida, was a devoted family man, and was the kind of person who would give the shirt off his back to anyone in need.
In addition to his wife, Donna, Mr. Smith is survived by his two sons, William Prescott Smith III and his wife, Torrie, of Gainesville, Fla., and Matthew P. Smith and his wife, Katie, of Danvers, Mass.; a brother, Thomas Smith and his wife, Joy, of North Conway, N.H.; a sister, Kathleen Moscheck of Orange City, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Wednesday, at 9:15 a.m., from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North St., Salem, to be followed by a funeral Mass, at 10 a.m., in St. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Murphy Funeral Home. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
