Salem — Mrs. Evelyn Catherine (Moroney) Goodridge, 95, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Warren B. “Buddy” Goodridge, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Massachusetts General Hospital, surrounded by her family.
Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Della (Feeney) Moroney. She was raised and educated in Salem, and was a graduate of Salem High School, Class of 1936.
Mrs. Goodridge began her professional career at the former Danvers Bleachery. She matriculated to G.T. E. Sylvania, where she began a career that would span over 37 years at the Loring Avenue Plant, retiring in 1982.
Evelyn was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt, who was a longtime, faithful member of St. James Parish in Salem. A lifelong resident of the city of Salem, Mrs. Goodridge was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Sylvania. A skilled knitter, known for her baby sweaters, she was a member of the St. James Knitting Group. A member of the Sylvania Women’s Golf League, she learned the game and loved the camaraderie. This led to an avid interest in watching PGA tournaments on television. Her most favorite place to go was Salem Willows to enjoy Hobbs' popcorn bars, kisses and ice cream. Evelyn was happiest when spending time with her family, especially preparing and hosting dinners and gatherings at her home. She was a true hostess, who lived independently until the time of her passing. She was committed to her family and faith and will be deeply missed.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Joyce Harrington and her husband, Philip “Hago” of Salem; her daughter-in-law, Linda (Toomey) Goodridge of Turnersville, N.J.; her grandchildren, Keith Harrington of Manchester, N.H., Danny Harrington of South Yarmouth, and David Goodridge of Collegeville, Pa.; her special niece, Eleanor Harrison, with whom she resided; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephew; and her grandson, Philip Goodridge of Lafayette Hill, Pa.; and extended family and friends. She was the mother of the late Roy Goodridge, and sister of the late Edward, Robert and James Moroney Jr., and Phyllis MacKinnon.
