Lynn, MA — Mary (Speridakos) Kourkoulis, age 102, of Lynn, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at her home, surrounded by her loving family, following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Haralambros Kourkoulis, who died in 1944. Born in Peabody in 1912, she was the daughter of the late Panagioti and Konstantina (Georgacopoulos) Speridakos. Mary attended Peabody Public Schools before moving to Greece at the age of 8. In 1947, she and her family returned to Lynn.
Mary was a seamstress at the former David H. Smith Company in Lynn. She was known as “the apron lady” to her family and friends. She enjoyed sewing and cooking and will be fondly remembered for her spinach pie and sweet breads that she made for her family every holiday. Mary was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn and a member of the Philoptochos Society at St. George.
Mary is survived by her children George Kourkoulis and his wife, Nancy of Peabody, Carol Orfanos and her late husband, EJ “Lefty” of Lynn, and Harry Kourkoulis and his wife, Susan of Lynn; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; her step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and other close family and friends. She was the sister of the late George, Nicholas, Arthur and Constantinos Speridakos.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, May 27, at 9 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a funeral service in St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Lynn at 10 a.m. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
