Lynn — The day shone less bright as Peter Gwilliam, father, brother, grandfather, juggernaut of finance, left this world for the next. Born to George and Agnes (Coade) Gwilliam in Brooklyn, N.Y., in 1944, Peter grew up in Syracuse, N.Y. After graduating from Central Vocational High School in 1962, he heeded his nation's call, joining the army and courageously serving his country in New Jersey. Seeking adventure and income, he and wife-to-be, Joan (Merkley), settled into a cozy seaside abode in Revere before moving to Lynn. Always the scholar, Peter graduated from UMass Boston with a degree in accounting. His thirst for knowledge quenched, he began to work for Coopers and Lybrand accounting in Boston. However, the corporate world could not tame his rambunctious spirit. Ever the entrepreneur, he started his own public accounting business on Lynn Common. Philanthropically principled, he donated his time and effort to various organizations such as Habitat for Humanity and North Shore Arc. He was on the board of directors for Pine Hill Little League, and served as president to both the Lynn Friends of the Mentally Retarded and Lynn Lyons Club. Knowing the superiority of his genetics, Peter was gracious enough to contribute to the human pedigree, cementing his lineage by rearing into the world four children, daughters, Amy Snow of Peabody and Julie Godbout of Lynn; and sons, Peter Gwilliam and Matt Gwilliam of Lynn. He is also survived by his wife, Joan Gwilliam; granddaughters, Caitlin Snow and Noelle Godbout; son-in-laws, Steve Snow and Jon Godbou;, and his brother, George Gwilliam; sister, Margaret Fifield; and several nieces and nephews.
He was surrounded by his loved ones at the time of his passing.
