Peabody — Virginia H. (Gardner) Wilson, 86, wife of the late Edward E. Wilson, died on Thursday, June 12, 2014
with her family by her side at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.
Mrs. Wilson was born in Lynn, on Jan. 24, 1928, the daughter of Harry A. and Margaret M. (Cormier) Gardner. She was raised and educated in Peabody and was a lifelong resident of the city. In 1952, Virginia enlisted into the U. S. Marine Corps and served as a heavy truck driver at Pearl Harbor during the Korean War prior to being honorably discharged on July 21, 1954.
Virginia lived for her family, 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. We will forever cherish the memories of spending each summer with our 40-plus cousins, aunts and uncles at Mousam and Estes Lakes in Maine. There are several of you that have invaluable memories of Beckett Street Beach and we all know how special mom really was and how much she loved to see each and everyone of us smiling as she came through the gate to sit on the swing when she came home from working her long shifts at the Hilltop Steak House.
Virginia is survived by four daughters, Debra A. Vernava and her husband, Robert of Salem, Robin M. Cerat of Danvers, Kathy S. Sawall and Tammy L. Boyle, both of Peabody; 10 grandchildren, Myndee, Nicholas, Dwayne, Jaime, Joshua, Daniel, Jenaka, Michael, Kori and Brandy; two sisters, Patricia Shannon of Georgia, and Cecilia Swindell of Topsfield; many nieces, nephews and friends. Virginia was also predeceased by a son-in-law, Daniel S. Boyle, and seven siblings, Charlotte Paradise, Margaret Nugent, George, Ralph, Lee, Francis and Larry Gardner.
