Gerald Hemeon, 83

Hampton, N.H. — Gerald W. Hemeon, 83, of Hampton, died Tuesday, October 23, at Oceanside Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Hampton with loving family by his bedside.

He was born in Beverly, January 24, 1929, a son of the late Jordan R. and Nancy (Wentzell) Hemeon.

Mr. Hemeon was raised in Beverly and graduated from Beverly High School with the Class of 1946. He married his wife of 60 years, Ernestine (Brewer) Hemeon in 1952 while serving with the United States Navy in Key West, Fla.

Gerry worked for Monty’s Mobil in Beverly then went on to become proprietor of Jerry’s Exxon in Topsfield for 27 years. The Hemeons lived in New Hampshire for 17 years before moving to Florida for nine years and most recently moved back to New Hampshire to be near family.

Gerry was an avid Boston sports fan, loved the races at Star Speedway, playing softball and tossing horseshoes. He was a very hard worker and a great provider for his family. He especially loved his times camping at 3 Ponds Campground in Brentwood with his family, which inspired he and Ernestine to move to New Hampshire. He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Beverly and the American Legion while living in Florida.

In addition to his wife Ernestine, Mr. Hemeon is survived by his children, William G. Hemeon of San Diego, Steven W. Hemeon of Hampton and Jeanne M. Hemeon of Seabrook, several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, David W. Hemeon and brothers, Farish and Jordan Hemeon.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, October 26, in the Remick & Gendron Funeral Home – Crematory, 811 Lafayette Rd., Hampton. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
