Rockport, MA — June Ellis Murray, 83, of Rockport, wife of the late Robert H. Murray, passed away peacefully at home on January 10, 2014. She was born in Beverly, Mass., on November 26, 1930.
June was the beloved daughter of the late Alexander Ellis and Helen Porter Ellis. She was a graduate of Beverly High School and continued her education and graduated from Westbrook Junior College in Maine. She worked for many years as a manager at the Credit Union, servicing members of Massachusetts Electric Company in Beverly, and later at the Department of Public Works in Rockport. June cherished her time spent as the Religious Education Director at the First Parish Unitarian Church in Beverly.
Above all, June loved her children and grandchildren. Her welcoming heart and kind nature was evident to all. Even the friends of her grandchildren called her, “Nan.”
June was a wonderful storyteller and she always inspired joy among her family, even when simply relating a day’s events. Her sharp wit and infectious laughter is something they will always remember. June loved music and would sometimes break into song; within minutes most of the family would join in.
An avid reader, June was often the one that her family would go to if they needed information on any given subject. She also embraced the use of her computer and kept in contact with many friends via email.
She is survived by her children, Robert Alexander Murray and his partner, Debra Norton of Rockport, Jayne Murray Bernier and her husband, Arthur Towne Bernier Jr. of Essex, Peter Ellis Murray of Rockport; her beloved grandchildren, Kascia Ingrid Murray and her husband, Guy Morrow Fiero of Rockport, Arthur Towne Bernier III, Lauren Murray Bernier, both of Asheville, N.C., Alexander Ellis Bernier of Denver, Colo., Zoe Kathryn Murray and Peter Ellis Murray Jr., both of Rockport; her beloved great-grandchildren, Emma Rose Jaremsek of Asheville, N.C., and Jackson Douglas Fiero of New York; and her sister, Helen Porter Curwen of Florida.
