George R. Rougier


Beverly — George R. Rougier, “Papa Big George” passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of January 14. He was born and raised in Lynn, and attended St. Jean de Baptiste School. After high school, he served for eight years in the U.S. Army Reserve. He was an avid golfer and bowler, and loved to sail. He lived for many years in Peabody, before moving briefly to Hampstead, N.H. He returned to the North Shore in 1998, moving to Beverly Cove. He was a salesman for QPL Electronic Distributors in Billerica until his retirement.

George is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol (DiSessa) Rougier; his daughter, Toniann (Rougier) Hamilton and her fiancé, Keith Alter; his son, George Rougier and his wife, Donna; his five grandchildren, Patrick, Alyssa, and Carli Hamilton, Marcus Benson and Cailtyn Rougier; his son-in-law, Patrick Hamilton; his brothers, Clarence “Eddie” Rougier and his wife, Judy, of Oklahoma, and Russell Rougier and his wife, Janice, of Newton, N.H.; his brother-in-law, T.J. DiSessa and his wife, Karen; and his close friend, Jack Kupelnick. He was predeceased by his parents, Clarence “Quink” and Sylvia (Leblanc) Rougier; his sister, Theresa (Rougier) Adrien; mother-in-law, Elsie (Fanti) DiSessa; and his wife’s step-mother Clare, (Jordan) (O’Neill) DiSessa.

George loved being a scout leader, youth baseball and hockey coach, and CCD teacher. He enjoyed working in his “woodshop” and fixing things, walking along the beach, and playing with his cat, “Jo-Jo”. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed all the New England sports teams.

ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m., in the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, Route 129, Lynn. His funeral Mass will be on Friday, at 11 a.m., in St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Lynn. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
