Thomas W. Joseph, 84

Essex — Thomas W. Joseph, 84, formerly of Chebacco Terrace in Essex, died Thursday, January 16, 2014, in the Blueberry Hill Healthcare Center, Beverly, following a brief illness.

Born in Essex, August 16, 1929, son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Day) Joseph, he was raised in Essex and attended the Rufus Choate school in Essex and graduated from Gloucester High School.

He was on the town baseball team in Essex and was an avid golfer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War. He formerly worked at Bulcan Industries in Lawrence as a plant supervisor and most recently at Woodman's of Essex.

He enjoyed dining out and going to the American Legion of Hamilton where he was a member.

He is survived by two daughters, Lesley B. (Joseph) Cotter-Joseph and her wife, AmyLynne (Cotter), of Lawrence, Nancy (Joseph) Amico and her husband, Paul, of Sarasota, Florida; six grandchildren; several nieces and a nephew; and several great-nieces and nephews; and his longtime companion, Linda Fitzgerald of Beverly. He was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Fitch, formerly of Essex. He will also be greatly missed by his best friend, Andrea MacIntyre, who visited him daily since he moved to Blueberry Hill.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 21, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Monday, January 20, 4 to 7 p.m. For directions or to leave a condolence, please visit
