William (Bill) A. Spencer, 75

Ipswich — It is with sad hearts that the family of William (Bill) A. Spencer announce his passing on January 19, 2014. His last days were spent surrounded by family, and in the loving and attentive care of the nurses and staff at Ledgewood Rehab Skilled Nursing Center in Beverly, Mass.

Bill was the son of Alvin and Drusilla (Walker) Spencer of Ipswich, Mass., with roots in New Brunswick, Canada, where he spent many youthful summers on Spencer Mountain exploring nature. He loved fishing, hiking, gardening, and long, scenic drives through the White Mountains of New Hampshire, an area he returned to throughout the years, vacationing with his children and grandchildren.

An honorably discharged veteran, Bill served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of the AmVets Post#201 of Ipswich, and he enjoyed socializing with many of his friends who also served their country. He worked as a foreman for a local roofing company, until health issues forced him to retire.

In recent years, he took up post at a favorite neighborhood bench, gathering with friends to "shoot the breeze" and observe the world around them. He was a loving and supportive father, and he adored his many grandchildren. Bill will be greatly missed by all his family, and will be especially remembered for his big heart, dry sense of humor and straight talk.

Bill was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth (Hewitt) Spencer; his brother, John Spencer; and his stepdaughter, Karen Tsaltas.

Bill is survived by daughters, Heather Baldinelli and her husband, Ronald, and Shelley Russell and her husband, James; and son, Scott Spencer, all of Ipswich; four stepchildren, Michael Tsaltas of Wakefield, N.H., George Tsaltas and his wife, Bernadette, of Seabrook, N.H., Theodore Tsaltas of Huntington Beach, Calif., and Christopher Tsaltas, also of Ipswich. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; brother-in-law and friend, Bill Hewitt of Deerfield, N.H.; and niece, Dawn Spencer of Portland, Maine.

ARRANGEMENTS: In honor of Bill's request, a private funeral service will be held at the convenience of his family. There will be no visiting hours. Burial will be in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, 29 Town Farm Road, Ipswich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in William Spencer's name to Care Dimensions, (formerly Hospice of the North Shore) 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Arrangements are by the Morris Funeral Home of Ipswich. If you would like to offer condolences to the family, please visit www.MorrisFH.com.
