John J. Ward, 78

Salem — Mr. John J. Ward, 78, of Salem, beloved husband of Sandra (Swiderski) Ward, died on January 24, 2014, following a lengthy illness, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers.

Born in Peabody, he was the son of the late Thomas and Marie (Dion) Ward. He was raised and educated in Peabody, and was a resident of Salem for over 40 years.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Ward had been employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for over 20 years as a bridge carpenter, until his retirement.

A longtime member of the Peabody Elks, Peabody, the Italian Community Club, Beverly, and the Polish Club of Danvers, John had a very outgoing personality and made friends wherever he went. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving him in addition to his wife, Sandra, is his daughter, Mary Ellen Crean of Salem; his granddaughter, Alexandria Crean of Salem; and his two daughters from a previous marriage, Kimberley Baldinelli and Pamela Ward, both of New Hampshire. He was also the brother of the late Thomas Ward Jr.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held in The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., at Salem Common, Salem, on Tuesday, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends invited.
