North Andover — Dorothy (Close) Hacker, 92, of North Andover, passed away Saturday, June 8, 2013, at The Meadows at Edgewood in North Andover.
The daughter of the late Louis and Esther Close, she was born and educated in Lawrence, graduating from Lawrence High School. For over 25 years, she was employed at the former Kolsky Jewelers in Lawrence. She was also the owner and operator of “Pretty Hats” card service.
Dorothy was a member of Temple Emanuel in Andover for over 60 years, and active in Hadassah and Sisterhood at the Temple.
She is survived by her son, Elliot Hacker and his wife, Barbara, of Andover; daughter, Marjorie and her husband, Edward, Gardner of Danvers; three grandchildren, Eric Gardner, Lauren Roth and her husband, Scott, and Julie Fleming and her husband, Edward; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Atty. Abraham Hacker, and her brothers, Henry and Charles Close, and her sister, Rosalind Miller.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend her funeral service on Monday, June 10, at 1 p.m., at Temple Emanuel, 7 Haggetts Pond Rd., Andover, Mass. Interment will follow at Temple Emanuel Cemetery, Lawrence. Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill and Bradford. A memorial observance will be held at the home of her son following interment until 9 p.m. on Monday and on Tuesday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Contributions in her memory may be made to The Dorothy and Abraham Hacker Memorial Fund to support Temple Emanuel, Andover, MA 01810.
