Swampscott, MA — Mr. David S. Hapgood, age 70, of Swampscott, died Saturday in a local nursing home after a lengthy illness. He was the husband of Judy L. (Jackson) Hapgood, with whom he shared 50 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Franklin and Bethany (Gilcreas) Hapgood. He lived in Swampscott for the greater part of his life.
David was a graduate of Swampscott High School, Class of 1960, and also attended Bridgton Academy and Springfield College. In high school, David received a Varsity Letter in football, baseball and basketball. He worked as a warehouse manager for Merrimack Valley Distributors in Danvers until his retirement and prior to that at the former Bay State Beverages in Lynn for many years. He was a former member of the Elks Club in Marblehead, and had played on the Lynn City Softball Team for several years. He loved to golf and enjoyed camping at Outdoor World, in Maine, and Lakeside Pines in Bridgton, Maine. He was always happy taking long car rides, and found great joy in playing board games with his family. His passion was solving crossword puzzles.
In addition to his wife, Judy, he is survived by three children; Sheila Rizzotti and her husband, Stephen, of Danvers, Peter Hapgood and his wife, Margaret, of Swampscott, and Patricia McTague and her husband, James, of Swamspcott; as well as five grandchildren, J.J. Zambouras and her husband, Jason, Bethany and Jeremy Hapgood, and Amanda and Cameron McTague. He was the brother of the late Brooke and Ernest Hapgood.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St. (Rte. 1A), Lynn, with a funeral service on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
