Jane Veronica (Holak) O’Connell, 83

Salem — Mrs. Jane Veronica (Holak) O’Connell, 83, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Edward C. O’Connell who passed away in November of 2012, died Monday, April 15, 2013, at her home surrounded by her family and her best friend and former neighbor for over 50 years, Santa Kozlowski, now residing in Beverly.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Teofila (Melewska) Holak. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a lifelong resident of the City of Salem.

As a young women, she was employed for many years at the United Shoe Machinery Company as an office worker. After her children were in school, Mrs. O’Connell held jobs at the former Daniel Low’s Department Store in Salem, the former Almy’s department store in Salem, and at Harbor Sweets in Salem as a clerk.

A long-time, dedicated communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem, Jane was a devoted wife and mother. Her family was paramount in her life. When surrounded by family, Jane’s smile was a mile wide. Her commitment to family was true and ever-present. From cookouts to weddings to trips the beach and to Maine and Las Vegas, time spent with her family was Jane’s most cherished moments in life. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.

Jane is survived by her two daughters, Nancy O’Connell of Salem and Janice Fierimonte and her husband, George, of Tewksbury; her son, Edward C. O’Connell and his wife, Susan, of Las Vegas, Nev.; her five devoted grandchildren, Meghan (Fierimonte) Oliveira and her husband, Felipe, of Framingham, Marisa Fierimonte and John Fierimonte of Tewksbury, April O'Connell and Edward O'Connell III of Las Vegas; one cherished great-grandson, Mason Oliveira; her sister, Helen McGrane of Salem; and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Edward Holak of Beverly.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in The O’Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common), Salem, Thursday at 10:30 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
