Francis X. Clarke


Marblehead — Mr. Francis X. Clarke, age 98, of Marblehead, died Tuesday at the Spaulding Hospital North Shore after a brief illness. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Helen J. (Zukas) Clarke. Born in Boston and raised in Jamaica Plain, he was the son of the late Owen M. and Anne (Clancy) Clarke. He had lived in Marblehead for the past 65 years.

Frank worked as the North Shore salesman for Carter Rice/International Paper Company for many years until his retirement in 1986. He was a longtime parishioner of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead. He was an avid golfer and was a 35 year member of Salem Country Club. To his credit, he achieved two holes-in-one. Frank was a knowledgeable sports enthusiast, and a great conversationalist. He was devoted to his extended family.

Frank is survived by his sister-in-law, Lydia Ainsley of San Francisco; as well as many loving nieces and nephews in the greater Boston area. He was the brother of the late Julia Mantle, and John, Tom, Joseph, Owen and James Clarke.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Solimine Funeral Home, 67 Ocean St., (Route 1A), Lynn, followed by a funeral Mass in Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in Mount Benedict Cemetery, West Roxbury. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited.
