Lake Arrowhead, CA — Patricia M. Hoy Diaz, age 59, of Lake Arrowhead, Calif., died after a lengthy illness at the San Dimas Hospital in San Dimas, Calif. Patti had an engaging sense of humor, and remained courageous and spirited to the end.
Born and raised in Beverly, Patti was the beloved daughter of Ellen Hoy and the late Thomas S. Hoy. A graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School, Patti also attended Essex Agricultural and Technical Institute and San Bernardino Community College. Patti truly enjoyed the mountains and the sea, having lived on both the east and west coasts, and in the Colorado and Lake Arrowhead area mountains.
Patti was quite a softball player during her school years, a talent that her daughter inherited. Patti worked as a nutritionist and as a caretaker for the elderly and disabled. She loved this work, especially the time she spent at Perkins School for the Blind. She was dedicated to the children there, bringing a student who lived a distance away home to Beverly for the holidays.
In addition to her mother, Patti is survived by her cherished daughter, Alison; and her grandson, Anthony of Huntington Beach, Calif.; and her beloved companion, Michael Ruehle of Lake Arrowhead. She also leaves her loving sisters, Ellen (Hoy) Galligan of Salem and Dara (Hoy) Zapata and her husband, Armando, of Beverly, together with her nieces, nephews, aunts and many cousins. She will be missed very much by all.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Brooksby Village Chapel at Brooksby Village in Peabody at 11 a.m. on August 10, 2013. Family and friends are invited to attend.
Donations in Patti’s memory may be made to The Perkins School, 175 N. Beacon St., Watertown, MA 02472 or at www.perkins.org.
