Ipswich — Stephen G. Marvin, 80, husband of Carole M. (Homans) Marvin of Belle Street, Ipswich, died Monday, May 13, 2013, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, Danvers, following his long illness.
Born in Newport, Vt., June 8, 1932, son of the late Dorothy (King) Damon and stepson of the late Kennard Damon, he was raised in Vermont and Swampscott, coming to Ipswich at the age of fourteen to graduate from Ipswich High School with the Class of 1950. He attended Northeastern University and entered the Army in 1952, serving in Europe as a cryptographer. Married in 1953, the Marvins made their home and raised their family on Belle Street. He worked at Avco/Textron in Wilmington as a computer programmer, retiring in 1990 after thirty years of employment. He then developed his own successful business, Financial Graphics Systems. He was an avid golfer who loved tending his home garden, working on his computer and spending time with his family, and enjoyed many trips to Aruba. He was a member of the Olde Newbury Golf Club and attended the United Methodist Church in Ipswich.
In addition to his wife of sixty years he is survived by three daughters, Diane J. Hogan and her husband, Charles, of Springhill, Fla., Debbie J. Foote and her husband, Greg, of Naples, Fla., and Lori J. Kelley and her husband, John, of Newburyport; six grandchildren, Daniel Hogan of Michigan, Christopher Hogan of Connecticut, Edward Dudek of Ipswich, Stephen Kelley and Colleen Kelley, both of Newburyport, and Jessica (Dudek) Right of Somerville.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, 2013, graveside in the Cowles Memorial Cemetery, Town Farm Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
