East Harwich — Barbara Ann (McMahon) Stevens, 95, Of East Harwich, January 22, 2013. Daughter of Margaret (Murphy) and Bernard McMahon of Salem.
Beloved wife of the late Laurence E. Stevens. Loving mother is survived by her three children, Susan Saracusa and husband, Richard, Brian Stevens and wife, Jadene and Judith Walsh and husband, Kevin. Also surviving Barbara are her grandchildren, Theresa Schille and husband, R.J., Kristina Lucey and husband, Mark, Matthew Walsh and wife, Melissa, Lauren Walsh, Alexis Stevens and Ashley Stevens, as well as her niece, Anne Cortis and husband; great-niece, Kelly Hollinhead and husband, James, great-grand children, Victoria, Isabella and Katerina Schille; and her great-grand-niece and nephew, Ava and Jace Hollinhead.
Barbara graduated from St. James School in Salem. She attended Essex Agricultural School in Danvers where she received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding accomplishments. Among her specialties were wedding gowns and tailoring suits.
Her gardens through the years resembled the Victory Garden. She grew Blue Ribbon tomatoes that were enjoyed by all. Barbara was an extraordinary woman with a unique charisma that lifted the morale with a smile for everyone that she met.
She had a special affinity for all of God’s creatures and they for her. Barbara felt that raising three caring children was her greatest accomplishment and she did it with her usual style and grace.
ARRANGEMENTS: Visiting hours will be held at Nickerson Funeral Home, 87 Crowell Road, Chatham, MA, on Saturday, January 26, from 8:30 am-9:30 am. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, January 26, at 10 a.m. at Holy Redeemer, Chatham. Burial will follow at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich.
