Ipswich — Joel G. Caverly, 74, husband of the late Edna R. (Greene) Caverly, died Friday, June 20, 2014 in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation Center, Beverly, following his brief illness.
Born in Ipswich, Jan. 13, 1940, son of the late Charles G. and Mary E. (Swett) Caverly, he was raised in Ipswich, a 1957 graduate of Ipswich High School. He continued his education at Boston University receiving a B.A. in music education before serving in the U.S. Navy.
He had a passion for music. For over 25 years, he was employed as a music teacher at the St. James Secondary School in Port of Spain, Trinidad, where he had lived for over 40 years. He returned to Ipswich in 2010.
Joel was a devoted member of the Bahai’ faith.
He is survived by two sisters, Harriet Bouchard of Levant, Maine, Ellen Sullivan of East Falmouth, and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late David Caverly, formerly of St. Louis, Marcia Ray of Hamilton and Mary Smolak of Ipswich.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, June 23, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, followed by interment in the Highland Cemetery, Ipswich.
