ipswich — George R. Desrochers, 77, loving husband of Jane (Woolsey) Desrochers, devoted father and proud grandfather passed away Wednesday, June 18, 2014 in the Beverly Hospital from an aggressive lymphoma following a courageous battle.
Born Nov. 30, 1936 in Berlin, N.H., he was the son of the late Ridmond D. and Antoinette (Gosselin) Desrochers. He worked as a patrolman on the Portland, Maine police force before beginning his career in electronics. He retired as a Vice-President of Omron Electronics, Inc. and truly enjoyed his retirement.
George had many hobbies and interests including traveling with his “beautiful bride," Jane of 57 years, motorcycle riding, target-shooting, reading historical biographies and cheering on his grandchildren enthusiastically for all their sports, their theater, or in their new-found careers. George had a love and an aptitude for anything mechanical and was dependable in his ability to fix anything, either properly or with a little bit of ingenuity. George was an instrument-rated private pilot, a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Marine Corps, where he received the National Defense Service Medal as well as a Good Conduct Medal. He served his country proudly during the Korean War.
George’s ability to tell a joke, relate a story, share a drink, comfort a friend, love his wife, cherish his children and adore his grandchildren will always be remembered. He was a member of the Blue Knights, the Ipswich Fish and Game, and he was a Captain in the Middlesex Sheriffs Motorcycle Unit.
In addition to his wife, Jane, he is survived by a son, Steven G. Desrochers and his wife, Barbara Wright of Virginia; two daughters, Cherilyn A. Pitera and her partner, William Peloquin of Wareham and Susan E. Danielson and her husband, Rod of Exeter, N.H.; five grandchildren, Ryan Pitera and his wife, Dr. Erica of New York City, Robyn K. Pitera of Marston Mills, Emma L. Desrochers of Virginia, and Greta J. and Bridget M. Danileson, both of Exeter, N.H.; a brother, Robert D. Desrochers of Salem, N.H.; a sister, Florence Richard of Berlin, N.H., and several nephews and nieces.
