Robert William Twombly, 78


Marblehead — Robert William Twombly, 78, passed away at his home in Marblehead, Mass., on Saturday, July 6, 2013.

Robert was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy. Robert was born in Lynn, and grew up in Peabody and Salem. A bright student, Bob graduated a year early from St. Mary's High School in Lynn, and enrolled early at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., before earning his degree in political science at the University of Notre Dame. After serving in the Navy from 1958-1961, Robert worked in the chemicals and plastics industries, and later in manufacturing.

A former member of the Corinthian Yacht Club, Bob was very active in racing his sailboat “Jezebel” from the 1950s through the 1970s. He later pursued fly fishing throughout New England.

Robert is the son of the late William E. Twombly and Helen Twombly (Fabiszeuski), both of Marblehead, Mass. He leaves behind 4 children, Robert G. Twombly of Denver, Colo., Timothy Twombly of Marblehead, Mass., W. Douglas Twombly of Westport, Conn., and Meredith Twombly of Shelburne, Mass.; as well as 6 grandchildren, Katherine, Matthew, Will, Ben, Madison, and Grace.

ARRANGEMENTS: On Thursday, July 11, 2013, services were held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Marblehead, Mass.
