Peabody — Nordia Leah (Prietz) Kay, 85, of Peabody, formerly of Marblehead, entered into rest on Tuesday morning, on January 21, 2014, at the Braeburn Gardens at Brooksby Village in Peabody. She was the beloved wife of Emanuel Kay. Born in New York City, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Betty (Chekmer) Prietz. She attended the High School of Music & Art, and graduated from Queens College, where she majored in art studies. Nordia received a master’s degree in art education from Columbia University.
Mrs. Kay had been employed as an occupational aide at Marlborough State Hospital in New Jersey, and an art supervisor for the Bridgeville, Pa., school system. Nordia had also taught watercolor classes at the North Shore Jewish Community Center for 40 years.
In addition to her husband, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, she is survived by two devoted children, Carl Kay and his wife, Yoko, of Cambridge and Japan, and Laurie Mallas and her husband, Thomas, of Swampscott; her sister, Adina Linden and her husband, Allen, of Durham, N.H.; four cherished grandchildren, Marissa and William Mallas, and Wataru and Eriko Kay; and many nieces and nephews.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at Stanetsky-Hymanson Memorial Chapel, Salem, on Friday, January 24, at 10 a.m. Interment will be held privately. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family on Friday evening, from 4:30 to 8 p.m., in the Catering Room at the MacIntosh Clubhouse, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody.
