Clearwater, FL — James R. Parady, 80, passed away in Clearwater on June 28, 2014 after a wonderful life full of love and dedication to family, friends, community, and country.
James (Jim, Jimmy, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa) was born at home in Rockport, Mass. to Theodore and Sarah Parady. Theodore (Teddy) Parady was the best older brother in the world and lives today with wife, Pat in Ipswich, Mass. Beloved baby sister, Claire Parady Nichols, passed away in 2009.
As a young teen, Jim was thrilled when his father brought him to his Pigeon Cove grocery store and trained him to balance customer service, efficiency, and accuracy. In those days, the customer walked up to the store counter with a list of needs. The clerk ran to retrieve each item, packaged the order, hand wrote/calculated the sum on the side of the bag, and completed the financial transaction. Through the time modeling his dad and watching his mother reach out daily feed her neighbors, Jim learned to love thy neighbor with great joy. Jim never looked back and never stopped his service to others.
Graduating from Rockport High School as Class President and local baseball champ, Jim met the love of his life, Gertrude (Gert) from Gloucester, in his senior year. Jim graduated from Massachusetts Maritime Academy (Class of 1955), married Gert, and began working as a Merchant Marine on The Great Lakes in Michigan. After a successful election to public office, Jim served as Clerk of Clinton Township in Michigan in the early 1960s. Though Jim worked and lived in several other states prior to Michigan, the move to Florida in 1963 would become the family’s permanent residence. With a home in Clearwater, Jim started work at Honeywell and became a Lieutenant in the U.S. Naval Reserve. In the 1980s, Jim earned two Master's degrees from Florida Institute of Technology, all while raising a family.
