Marblehead — Joseph G. McLaughlin, 75, of Marblehead, Mass., past peacefully on July 8, 2014. He was the beloved husband of Mary B. (Glynn) McLaughlin for 47 years; dear and devoted father to Joseph, Kevin, Colleen (husband Ali Komeyli), Michael (wife Kim York), and James (wife Rachel); and loving grandfather to Kian, Mashti and Finley. His love touched nieces and nephews, and extended family, both in the U.S. and Ireland.
Born to Joseph and Maureen McLoughlin of Kilchreest, Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland, he was the brother of Kevin McLoughlin of Dublin, Ireland. He was predeceased by sisters, Anna Glynn and Mary Morgan of Loughrea, County Galway, Ireland.
Joe attended Garbally Secondary School, Dalgan Seminary, Boston State Teachers College, Boston College, and University College Dublin. Dedicated teacher, mentor and coach in the Swampscott School System for 33 years, he established the town soccer program, and coached the Big Blue varsity soccer team ("potentially the best").
Joe was an active member of Our Lady, Star of the Sea Parish in Marblehead, Mass., where he devoted his service to being a founder of the ecumenical council involving churches and temples on the North Shore. He was also a frequent volunteer at St. John's Prep in Danvers, Mass.
ARRANGEMENTS: Joe’s funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady, Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave., Marblehead, on Friday, July 11, at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours at the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., corner of North St., Salem, are on Thursday, July 10, from 4 to 7 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
