Edna (Gerlach) Schaeffer, 89


Beverly — Edna (Gerlach) Schaeffer, 89, of Beverly Commons Drive, Beverly, died Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Wesley H. Schaeffer who passed in 1982.

Born in Newark, NJ, July 8, 1923 daughter of the late Frank and Edna (Jansen) Gerlach, she was raised in Newark and was a graduate of Newark public schools.

Married in 1946, the Schaeffers made their home and raised their family in New Providence and Summit, NJ. Mrs. Schaeffer was employed as a support specialist for C.R. Bard Medical in Providence, NJ, for fifteen years and later at New York Life Insurance Co. in Flanders, NJ, from which she retired in 1988.

Mrs. Schaeffer enjoyed golf, needlecraft, playing cribbage and bridge with family and friends. She’ll be remembered by those who knew her as someone who was always willing to help and support others.

She was a member of the First Church in Wenham, the Topsfield Needlecraft Guild, Beverly Senior Center, Hamilton-Wenham Senior Center and, for many years, volunteered at the VA Hospitals in New Jersey and Beverly Hospital.

She is survived by a son, Roger W. Schaeffer and his wife Terrie of Ipswich; two grandchildren, Kristen Ganley of Derry, NH, and Julie Daniels of Groveland; great grandchildren Kate and Sarah Ganley and Megan and Abby Daniels.

ARRANGEMENTS: A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Saturday, December 1, 2012, at the First Church in Wenham, Main Street, Wenham. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed.
