Peabody — Karl “Mike” Cyr, age 78, loving husband of Barbara (Lang) Cyr of Peabody, formerly of Salem, died on Monday, December 3, 2012, in the Kaplan Family Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
Born in Salem, the son of the late Omer and Mary (Cassidy) Cyr, he was raised and educated in Salem, attending St. James Grammar School and graduating from Salem High School in the Class of 1952. Following his graduation, Mr. Cyr joined the United States Navy, proudly serving the country for four years.
Upon his discharge, he was employed by the United Shoe in Beverly for 25 years. Once he retired he earned his Associates Degree from North Shore Community College and was also a bartender for the Salem A.O.H Division 18 in Salem for several years.
An avid reader, he loved doing puzzles and was a patient man who always appreciated all that was done for him.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Cyr is survived by three children, Michael and his wife Sally Cyr of Beverly, Christine and her husband George Malta of Malden and Mark and his wife Ann Cyr of Kingston, N.H., his sister Doris and her husband Bill Butner of Salem; a sister-in-law Helen Cyr of Salem; six grandchildren, Meghan, Jennifer, James, Richard, Joe, and Sam and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Ralph and Lawrence “Luke” Cyr, a sister Mary Vanne, and a grandson Joshua M. Malta.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Saturday at noon in the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St. (corner of North Street), Salem. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visitation will be prior to the service on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. Interment will be private.
