Anne T. Filias, 87

Manchester-by-the-Sea — Anne T. Filias, 87, died Sunday, May 18, 2014, following a brief illness. She was the loving wife of Charles A. Filias, with whom she shared nearly 66 years of marriage.

Born in Salem on June 1, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Catherine Arvanitakis. She was raised and educated in Salem, and was a graduate of Salem High School and Wilfred Academy.

For many years, she was employed at Marguerite’s Beauty Salon in Manchester. She was a loving and dedicated homemaker, known far and wide for her cooking and baking, especially her rum cake and her Miami Beach cake.

A longtime resident of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Anne was a member of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church in Ipswich, where she was a member of the choir for 40 years, and a Sunday School teacher. She was a member of the Daughters of Penelope, Pi Epsilon Sigma and the Manchester Women’s Club.

In addition to her husband, she leaves her children, Kathryn Filias-Burroughs and her husband, Chip, of Manchester, Arthur Filias and his wife, Dawn, of Manchester, and John Filias and his wife, Paula, of Essex; her grandchildren, Will and Kayla Burroughs, Alexandra and Christopher Filias, and Lindsay Milne; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Davekos and Harry Takis.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be Friday, May 23, at 10 a.m., in the Assumption of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 8 Lafayette Rd., Ipswich. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Manchester. Relatives and friends are invited. As requested, there are no visiting hours.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Anne’s name may be made to the charity of your choice.
