Ipswich — Geraldine A. (Weagle) Manthorne, 85, of Derry, N.H. and longtime resident of Kinsmam Court, Ipswich, died Wednesday, May 21, 2014 in the Seaview Retreat, Rowley following her long illness. She was the wife of the late Richard F. Manthorne, who died in 2012.
Born in Ipswich March 31, 1929, she was the daughter of the late George C. and Beatrice M. (Tufts) Weagle. She was raised in Ipswich, was a 1947 graduate of Ipswich public schools and the Beverly Hospital School of Nursing. Married in 1951, the Manthornes made their home and raised their family on Kinsman Court. For many years she was employed as a registered nurse at the former Cable Hospital in Ipswich, later employed as a bookkeeper at her husband’s R&R Autobody Shop in Ipswich. Retiring in the early 90s, the Manthornes relocated to Beaver Lake in Derry, N.H.
“Gerry” enjoyed home arts and crafts which included painting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed home gardening and her time at and on “the lake.”
She attended the Ipswich United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra L. Nicholson and her husband, Neal of Rowley; a son, Scott Manthorne of New Hampshire; a brother, George Weagle of Ipswich and several nephews and nieces. She was the sister of the late Robert Weagle, formerly of Ohio, and Jinny Comeau, formerly of Ipswich.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, graveside, in the Southside Cemetery, County Road, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Tuesday 5 to 7 p.m. in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich.
