Essex — John F. Kane, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, July 2, 2014 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Mass.
John was born Dec. 2, 1926 in Boston. He served in the Merchant Marines and the Marine Corp. between 1943 and 1950. He owned and operated Contracting Ventures for many years, as well as the Essex Village shopping center and built the restaurant Olde Essex House now known as the Blue Marlin located in Essex. He resided in Essex since 1980 moving from Manchester-by-the-Sea. John was always surrounded by his loving family, his construction crew and his German Shepherd dogs.
Surviving him are his five daughters, Mary Kane, Nancy Davis, Susan Kane, Linda Blair, and Sharon Kane. He is also survived by his three granddaughters, Marie, Justine and Samantha Kane; and three grandsons, George and James Davis and Logan Verma. He was predeceased by his late wife, Miriam Kane.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral service will be held graveside, at the Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Pine St., Manchester-by-the-Sea, Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
