Jack McCloskey, USMC, Retired, 87

Marblehead, MA — Master Gunnery Sargent, Jack McCloskey, U.S. Marine Corps, Retired, passed away peacefully at home on June 28, at the age of 87. Jack was married to the late Marijane (Walsh) McCloskey for 62 years. Jack and Jane met while summering in Nahant in 1946 and married at St. Ignatius Church at Boston College in 1950. They enjoyed sharing their time in Marblehead and Vieques Island, Puerto Rico.

Jack was a graduate of Salem High School and Boston College University. He was the son of the late Donald F. and Marie (McGrath) McCloskey, and grew up in Salem, Mass., with his brothers, Joseph of Andover and the late James, Donald, and Robert, and his cousin, Marie Ward of Marblehead, Mass.

Jack was a career Marine who retired as a Master Gunnery Sargent and later proudly served as Marblehead harbormaster. He was as was also avid one-design and ocean-racing sailor.

Jack was a devoted husband to Jane, a loving father to his seven children, Michael, Martha, Mark, Mary, Meghan, Matthew (late), and Madeleine McCloskey (Anderson) and his 14 grandchildren, Jay, Anna, Michaela, Jorgen, Ingrid, Ralph, Lexi, Austin, Dylan, Lindsay, Jack, Walter, Bobby, and Elena. Jack enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a friend to all and always had a big smile and a great story to tell.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Mass of Celebration of Jack’s Life will be held at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 85 Atlantic Ave, Marblehead, on Wednesday, July 3, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.
