George P. Gallagher, 73


Beverly — Mr. George P. Gallagher 73, beloved husband of Jacqueline (Nelson) Gallagher, died on Monday, July 1, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born and raised in Beverly, he was the son of the late George W. and Bridget (Cloherty) Gallagher. He graduated from Beverly High School, Class of 1959, where he was a member of the football team.

An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve.

Mr. Gallagher had been employed for 36 years by the City of Beverly. At the time of his retirement in 2004, he was a foreman for the highway division.

A lifelong resident of the City of Beverly, he was a life member of the Beverly Elks B.P.O.E. #1309. George enjoyed fishing and was an avid bowler for many years.

In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 45 years of marriage, he is survived by two daughters, Rae Anne Gallagher of Beverly, and Patti Gallagher and her fiancé, Peter Green of Beverly; one son, George P. Gallagher and his wife, Cynthia of Beverly; four grandchildren, Courtney Green, Bridget Gallagher, Amanda Gallagher, and Sean Gallagher; one sister, Mary B. Ward of Beverly; two brothers, Frederick J. Gallagher of Haverhill and Thomas E. Gallagher and his wife, Donna of Haverhill; and many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held at the Campbell–Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 9 Dane St., Beverly, downtown location, on Wednesday at 1 p.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours are Tuesday (today) from 4 to 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
