Salem — Mrs. Sophie H. (Stukiel) Pszenny, 88, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Albin J. Pszenny, died on January 19, 2014, at Salem Hosptial, surrounded by her family, following a long illness.
Born in South Boston, she was the daughter of the late Constantine and Antonina (Bankowska) Stukiel. She was raised and educated in South Boston, and was a graduate of South Boston High School.
Mrs. Pszenny had been employed as a union seamstress with the I.L.G.W.U of Boston for over 30 years. Following her retirement, she had been employed as a cook at the former Jordan Marsh Restaurant in Peabody.
A longtime resident of the city of Salem, Sophie was a loving mother, sister and aunt, who was devoted to raising her family and making sure they were provided with a good education. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, and aunt who will be deeply missed.
Sophie is survived by her daughters, Marcia S. Pszenny of Salem, and Roberta A. Pszenny of Chicago, Ill; her son, Albin J. Pszenny II of Salem; her sister, Lillian DePeron of Belmont; and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister and sister-in-law of the late Jenny Smith and her husband, Tom, Laura Romanowski and her husband, John, Blanche Newby and her brother, Stanley Stukiel.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from The O’Donnell Funeral Home, 46 Washington Sq., at Salem Common, Salem, on Thursday, at 9:15 a.m., followed by her funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Polish Church, St. Peter St., Salem, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, from 4 to 7 p.m.
