Ipswich — Gordon W. Sweeney, 79, of Candlewood Road, Ipswich, died Tuesday, January 28, 2014, in the Ledgewood Rehabilitation Center, Beverly following his long illness.
Born in Beverly, April 8, 1934, son of the late Leonard N. and Caroline (Walker) Sweeney, he was raised in Beverly and was a 1952 graduate of Beverly High School. Following high school he went to work as a carpenter, a skilled profession he worked until his retirement in 2007.
Gordon enjoyed watching NASCAR races, the New England Patriots and the cases before “Judge Judy.”
He is survived by four sons, Scott Sweeney and his wife, Deborah, of Ipswich, William Sweeney and his wife, Colleen, of Ipswich, David Sweeney and his wife, Lisa, of W. Newbury, Jeffrey Sweeney and his wife, Bridget, of Amesbury; a daughter, Lisa A. Thomas of Beverly; seven grandchildren, Dustin and Erin Sweeney, Sarah Milaschewski and Amy Thomas, Jennifer McIntyre, Matthew and Michael White; four great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Paul Sweeney, formerly of Beverly and John Sweeney, formerly of Ipswich.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, in the Whittier-Porter Funeral Home, 6 High St., Ipswich, followed by interment in the New Highland Cemetery, Ipswich. Family and friends are respectfully welcomed. Visiting hours are Monday, 4 to 7 p.m.
