Lynn — Mr. Edward L. Hayden, Jr., age 87, of Lynn, died Wednesday at Union Hospital after a brief illness. He was the husband of Eleanor (Scanlon) Hayden, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Edward L. Hayden and Nellie (Lewis) Hayden. A lifelong Lynn resident, he was a graduate of St. Mary’s Boys High School, class of 1944.
Edward served in the United States Navy during World War II. He worked as an Insurance Underwriter for Boston area Insurance companies. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church, and was a member of St. Mary’s High School Alumni Association, as well as a former member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 10, Lynn. He coached West Lynn Little League and Babe Ruth for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children, Edward Hayden III and his wife, Mary, of Topsfield, Thomas Hayden of Florida, Carol Melville of Peabody and Susan Cromwell and her husband, Darren, of Lincoln; seven grandchildren, Alyson and Emily Hayden, Ryan and Kaylan Melville, and Lauren, Chanelle and Darren Cromwell; as well as his sister, Helen Hughes of Peabody and several nieces and nephews. He was the father-in-law of the late Richard Melville.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, (Route 129), Lynn, followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
