Salem — Irene B. Cousins, 98, died on Saturday, February 22, 2014, at her home in Revere, following a long illness. She was the wife of the late Emil S. Cousins, a well known North Shore musician.
Born in Lewiston, Maine, and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Hilaire and Emeline (Ducasse) Michaud. Irene embraced her role as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and homemaker. A resident of Salem for most of her life, she was a member of the St. Joseph School Alumni Association. She also enjoyed singing and acting in several local theatrical productions, and was a proud supporter of the Salem Philharmonic Orchestra. Irene was a past member of the former St. Joseph Parish and choir, and later a member of Ste. Anne Parish. She moved to Revere in 2003, when her health began to decline.
She is survived by two sons, Donald E. Cousins and his wife, Lorraine, of Revere, and Norman D. Cousins and his wife, Janet, of Beverly; four grandchildren, Kristina Nappi, Diana Cousins, Sarah Farinato, and Jessica Cousins; as well as two great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria Nappi.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Friday, February 28, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., in the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St., Route 114/1-A, Salem, to be followed by her funeral Mass in Ste. Anne Church, 290 Jefferson Ave., Salem, at 12 p.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
