Salem — Elana Rose Carbone Zizza, 35, of North Billerica, died unexpectedly on Saturday, February 22, 2014, in Salem.
Born in Lynn on October 20, 1978, she was the beloved daughter of Karen Carbone Anthony, originally from Salem, and Gabriel John Zizza from Boston. Elana attended Bates Elementary School in Salem and St. John's Junior High School in Peabody. She graduated high school from Thayer Academy in Braintree, where she wrote for the school magazine and won many scholastic awards for best fiction writer throughout her four years. In her senior year, she interned for the Patriot Ledger, where she was invited to remain as a contributing reporter. She was also a skilled and avid skier, and member of the Academy Ski Club. She attended Boston University, and was employed for many years as an accounts manager for Eastern Building Services in Lowell. She also served as the union liaison, resolving disputes and legal issues. Recently, she enjoyed a new role as operations manager for New England Carpet Master of North Reading.
Elana leaves behind her mom, Karen and stepdad, Terry Anthony; her father, Gabriel, and his longtime companion, Linda Connors; her sister, Maria, and brother-in-law, Tony Caggiano; her nephew and godson, Anthony; as well as her doting grandmother, Kay Carbone; her close friends, Eliu, Nicole and Kim; her aunts, uncles, cousins and friends; and Freckles, who like all of us, will miss her every day. She was also the sister of the late Paul Zizza.
ARRANGEMENTS: A visitation will be held in the David H. Gonet Funeral Home, 22 Hawthorne Blvd., Salem, on Friday, February 28, from 4 to 7 p.m., followed by a service at 7 p.m. Her friends and family are welcome. Burial will be private.
