Rockland, Maine — Ronald T. "Hutch" Hutchins, 43, died at his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, January 25, 2014, after a long illness.
Born in Torrance, Calif., on November 14, 1970, he was the son of John G. Sr., and Virginia R. Osgood Hutchins. He attended local schools, and while at Bell Gardens High School, excelled in water polo and football. After moving to Lynn, Mass., he attended Lynn Classical High School.
Hutch began employment with East Coast Seafood in Lynn where he developed a knowledge and love of the lobster business.
He later settled in Rockland, and had been employed with Owls Head Lobster. Through his work with that company, Hutch made many lasting friends. His speedy and accurate math skills earned him recognition as the "Human Calculator." He loved talking about his job and enjoyed driving the truck to Boston, delivering lobsters for shipment from Logan International Airport.
Not only was Hutch a hard worker, but he was devoted to his family and friends. He would take the time to listen to anyone and always approached people with an open heart. Often he urged and supported his children to continue their education.
For almost 15 years, he enjoyed the companionship of his soul mate, Michelle St. Pierre. She often lovingly referred to him as her "Amazing Man." Hutch is survived by his mother, Virginia, of Peabody, Mass.; his father, John G. Sr., of Shady Oak Park, Danvers, Mass.; his companion, Michelle L. St. Pierre of Rockland; two sons, Nicholas W. Hutchins and Bradley K. Hutchins, both of Massachusetts; a daughter, Michaela R. Preston of Rockland; his maternal grandmother, Alice Riparandido of Medford, Mass.; his brother, John G. Hutchins Jr. and his companion, Jennifer Ames of Rockland; a sister, Cheryl Bergeron and her husband, Thomas of Salisbury, Mass.; as well as several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
I'll always love and miss you. Rest in peace, my son. - Dad
