Beverly — Alice J. Desmond, 88, beloved wife of Richard W. Desmond, died on Sunday morning, March 2, 2014, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her family.
Born and raised in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Wladyslaw and Jozefa (Lipka) Bartnicki. She received her education in the Salem School System, and graduated from the Hawthorne Institute in Salem.
Alice had been employed as a medical technician for Dr. Stebbins in Salem. Prior to that, she had worked as a medical secretary at Salem Hospital in its medical records department.
A longtime resident of Beverly, Alice enjoyed traveling throughout the world, including many cruises to Europe and the Caribbean. She also enjoyed square dancing and was an avid Red Sox fan. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, who will be missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters. Sandra Desmond of Peabody and Lisa Desmond and her fiancé Stephen Haskell of South Hamilton, three sons, Kevin Desmond and his wife, Deborah of Haverhill, Keith Desmond and his wife, Nancy of Beverly and Thomas Desmond and his wife, Robin of Gloucester, seven granddaughters, Morgan, Meagan and Brittany Richmond, Rose, Danielle, Jennifer and Jodi Desmond, a grandson, Richard W. Desmond II, five great grandchildren, a sister, Helen Mignault of Topsfield, a brother, Edward Bartnicki of Salem and many nieces and nephews. She was also the mother of the late Neil Desmond and sister of the late Mary Townsend, Estelle L’italien, Anna Kowalski, John A. Bartnicki and Thaddeus Bartnicki.
ARRANGEMENTS: A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Margaret’s Church, 672 Hale St., Beverly Farms, on Saturday, March 8, at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours at the Campbell–Lee, Moody, Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, will be on Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private.
