In 1967 Bette earned her Massachusetts Professional Librarian certification and worked at the Ipswich Public Library, retiring in 1983, but volunteering there until she was 80. She enjoyed traveling the country with Doc, and then established her own postcard business, learning the art of photography at an evening class taught by a local photographer. She was involved in the community for many years with the Ipswich Women’s Club, as a volunteer for the Girl Scouts, and also the American Red Cross, and knitting afghans for veterans and mittens for Ipswich Caring.
She is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Lynne, of Grosse Ile, Mich.; her daughter, Ann Savage and her husband, Paul McDade of Ipswich; five grandchildren, Christina (Costanza) Brown of Nottingham, N.H., Michael Costanza of Topsfield, Richard and Christopher Savage of Grosse Ile, and Kimberly (Savage) Eberly of Ferndale, Mich.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
