Peabody MA — Marie D. (Markham) Cliffe, 89, of Peabody, died on Sunday morning at the Devereux House Nursing Home in Marblehead after a long illness. She was the wife of the late Maurice J. Cliffe Sr. She was born in Peabody on February 25, 1924, and was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Dunleavey) Markham. She was a lifelong resident, graduating from Peabody High School in 1942.
Marie had worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts unemployment office in Salem for seven years, prior to retirement in 1982. She was a No. 1 Red Sox fan, and enjoyed taking trips and traveling with her husband. She liked taking walks around the
neighborhood, and going to the Torigian Center meeting with her friends.
The Cliffe family would like to thank the staff and friends at the Devereux Nursing Center for all their love and support during the past year.
Marie is survived by her three sons, James C. Cliffe and his companion, Gayle, of Peabody, John Cliffe of Glen, N.H., and Maurice and Julie Cliffe of Lynn; her grandchildren, Matthew Cliffe and his fianceé, Kristina Calisto, and Andrew Cliffe and his companion, Sara, of Peabody, Patrick and Kathleen Cliffe of Lynn, and Conor and Courtney Cliffe of Boxford; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late John and George Markham.
ARRANGEMENTS: A Visitation will be held on Monday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Conway, Cahill-Brodeur Funeral Home, 82 Lynn Street, Peabody. Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Baptist Church, 16 Church Street, Peabody, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem.
