Mr. James M. Deveney, 99


Rowley — James M. Deveney, 99, of Rowley, and formerly of Lynn, passed away at home with his family by his side. He was the widower of Cecelia (Lombara) Deveney.

James was born in Lynn on August 11, 1914, to the late Michael and Rose (Geegan) Deveney. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army Air Force as Staff Sergeant with the 1060th Army A.F.

Before his retirement, he worked as a lineman for the Massachusetts Electric Co. Jim was a graduate of Bentley College, and had played semi-pro football. He belonged to a rowing club and a gentlemen's club.

He is the brother of Winifred Cargill of Norfolk, Mass., and Virginia Fitzgerald of Danvers, Mass. He is survived by his nephew and niece, William and Dale Cuddy of Rowley, with whom he made his home. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Main Street, Rowley, on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow with Military Honors in the Main Street Cemetery, Rowley. Visitation will be held on Thursday, prior to the Mass, from 9 to 11 a.m., in the F. S. Roberts & Son Funeral Home, 14 Independent Street, Rowley.
